The invention relates to a body for a motor vehicle, comprising a support structure (10) which is provided with a roof module (42) that is placed upon a base module (12). A roof column (50), the lower end (64) of which is to be fixed to the base module (12) during assembly of the partial modules (12, 26, 42, 50, 52), extends between the roof (43) of the roof module (42) and the base module (12). In order to create a different modularization of the support structure (10) while improving the crash stability of the body, the roof column (50) is embodied as a separate part, the upper end of which is to be fastened in an overlapping manner to a support part (62) that protrudes from the roof (43).
