A method and apparatus for sector specific scrambling in a wireless communication system are described. A complex number for every subcarrier in every OFDM symbol in a superframe is assigned, wherein k=0, 1 , N<SUB>CARRIER-1</SUB>. It is determined if the subcarrier corresponds to a forward dedicated pilot channel (F-DPICH) hop-port. Complex symbols on each subcarrier are multiplied by corresponding to the forward dedicated pilot channel (F-DPICH) hop-port with a sector-specific scrambling sequence.
