PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information providing method capable of providing information more suitable to a user when providing the user with information on one or more food materials stored in a refrigerator.SOLUTION: An information providing method for providing a user with information on one or more articles stored in a refrigerator having a sensor for identifying a user includes: a reception step for receiving, from the refrigerator, a signal including an identification result on a user identified by the sensor; an extraction step for referring to schedule information corresponding to the user based on the identification result on the user, from a memory that stores a plurality of users' schedule information and extracting a scheduled future event; a determination step for determining an article corresponding to the event; a generation step for generating information on one or more articles stored in the refrigerator based on the determined article; and a transmission step for transmitting a signal to cause an instrument that the user uses to output the generated information to the instrument.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
