PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight in which the increase in the number of light sources is suppressed and which can be used for various shapes of liquid crystal display, and a liquid crystal display device including such a backlight.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device 1 includes two liquid crystal displays 2 and 3 with different shapes, and an edge-light type backlight 4 provided behind the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3. The backlight 4 has the size that covers the rear surface region of the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3. The backlight 4 includes a light source 12, and a light guide portion 6 that guides the light from the light source 12 to the rear surface region of the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3. The light guide portion 6 includes a plurality of columnar blocks 7 disposed in a two-dimensional direction. A light-blocking plate 10 is disposed in a space 8 between the columnar blocks 7 at outer peripheral sides 2b and 3b of the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3 and in the space 8 at which the light from another light source 12c is introduced, so that the light from the light source 12 is delivered through the light guide portion 6 to the rear surface region of the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3 and the light is not delivered to the region other than the rear surface region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
