1,209,942. Zeolites. SUN OIL CO. 22 Aug., 1967 [25 Aug., 1966], No. 10588/70. Divided out of 1,209,941. Heading C1A. The invention comprises crystalline zeolite Y containing at least 1 cation comprising cerium for every 9 atoms of aluminium. " Zeolite Y " is defined as the material defined in U.S. Specification 3,130,007. (This material is virtually the same as that disclosed in Specification 909,266.) Specified cerium cations are Ce<SP>+3</SP>, CeOH<SP>+3</SP>, CeOH<SP>+2</SP>, Ce(OH) 2 +<SP>2</SP> and CeO<SP>+2</SP>. The zeolite may be acidic and substantially anhydrous. It may be prepared by (a) NH 4 ion exchange of crystalline Na zeolite Y, as defined, until the resulting NH 4 - exchanged zeolite contains, on an ignited basis, not more than 3% by wt. of Na; (b) further exchange with a ceriumcontaining solution, e.g. Ce. (NO 3 ) 3 .6H 2 O until the zeolite contains, on an ignited basis, at least 7% by wt. of Ce; (c) heating the zeolite to 125-300‹ C. until there is substantially no further weight loss. The zeolite may then be heated to 320-500‹ C. in presence of a gas, e.g. air, until substantially no further evolution of NH 3 occurs. |
