<p>1473910 Curing acrylate rubbers B F GOODRICH CO 12 Sept 1974 [17 Sept 1973] 39751/74 Heading C3P Acrylate rubbers comprising units of (a) 40-99À8 wt. per cent of at least one acrylate of formula CH 2 =CH.COOR<SP>1</SP> wherein R 1 is C 1-18 alkyl or C 1-12 alkoxyalkyl, alkylthioalkyl or cyanoalkyl, (b) 0À1-30 wt. per cent of a halogen-containing monomer selected from halogencontaining vinylene hydrocarbons and halogencontaining vinyl monomers having the halogen atom at least two carbon atoms removed from an oxygen atom, (c) 0À1-20 wt. per cent of a carboxyl monomer, and optionally (d) 0-35 wt. per cent of a further monomer containing a terminal vinylidene group, are cured in the presence, as sole curing agent, of 0À5-25 wt. per cent (based on rubber) of a quaternary ammonium salt of formula wherein Ra, Rb, Rc and Rd are each C 1-18 alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl radicals, or wherein two or three of them form with the nitrogen atom a heterocyclic structure containing a total of 3-8 atoms selected from C, N, O and S atoms, at least two being C, and X is an anion selected from RCOO-, H 2 BO 3 -, HPO 4 =, H 2 PO 4 -, HO-, ROPO 3 H-, (RO) 2 PO 2 H-, each R being phenyl or C 1-18 alkyl or alkaryl, and an alkyl phenoxy poly-(ethyleneoxy)phenyl phosphate anion. Numerous monomers, curatives, and conventional compounding ingredients are specified. In examples, the rubber is derived from (a) ethyl acrylate and n-butyl acrylate, (b) vinyl benzyl chloride or 2-chloroethyl acrylate, and (c) methacrylic acid, and the curative is trimethyl soya ammonium stearate, trimethyl benzyl ammonium stearate or benzoate, or dodecyl pyridinium stearate.</p> |
