Power transmission using bevel gears - has auxiliary gear pair mounted on their shafts with clearance to increase power capacity

A bevel gear box (6) transmits power from the shaft (7) to the shaft (8). The power transmitted can be doubled by using an additional pair of bevel gears (3) and (4) which are mounted on stub shafts (9, 10) with a clearance (j1). With this arrangement of gears the extra power can be transmitted without increasing the size of the gear box. In addition the separating force between each set of meshing teeth is equal so that no bending moment is exerted on the shafts (7, 8) and the journal load on the bearings is also reduced.
