ALCHEMILLA EXTRACT AND ITS PRODUCTION AND APPLICATION

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject extract containing gallic acid and gallic tannins each in a specified proportion, and useful for protecting the skin from ultraviolet radiation and treating inflammation due to ultraviolet radiation as an ultraviolet filter and anti-free radical agent. CONSTITUTION: This extract is obtained by extracting it from the product contained in the aerial parts (leaves and stems) of alchemilla with a solvent such as water or acetone. The extract contains 0.2-1wt.% of gallic acid and 6-15wt.% of gallic tannins on a powder basis in the case of dry extract, or on a dry residue basis for liquid or pasty extract. It is recommended that the extraction is conducted using a solvent at 4-20wt. times the aerial parts of alchemilla at 10 deg.C to the boiling point of the solvent for 2-80h.
