PURPOSE:To improve processing time and reduce waiting time by finding widths of a document at a plurality of positions in the conveying direction, and finding inclination of the document based on positions where a largest value and a next largest, value of found widths are obtained. CONSTITUTION:Inclination of a document P is detected through a reading means 70 and a pressing roller 74 is substantially colored black. When the document P is conveyed in the Y-axis direction, a left end position and a right end position of the document P on the X-axis are detected at every interval (e). A position Pnmax and a position Pn-nmay in the Y-axis direction where a largest value and a next largest value among widths d1-dn of the document P in relation to respective positions are respectively obtained are detected and inclination Q of the document P with respect to the advancing direction is detected. With this constitution, inclination of the document P is accurately detected so that a reading error possible to be caused in relation to the inclination of the document P can be prevented. |
