METHOD OF GENERATING RECOGNITION INFORMATION OF STORAGE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate recognition information which facilitates the confirmation of which content is stored in which of storage devices of the same kind without reproducing information (contents) stored in an information storage medium such as optical disc or semiconductor memory.

SOLUTION: This method of generating recognition information of storage device comprises generating at least 4-digit unique recognition information expressed by system of decimal numeration and giving it to each disc cartridge 20 in order to discriminate a disc cartridge 20 having an optical disk 1 capable of rewriting information quantity in bit units from other disc cartridges 20 of the same kind. In this method, the recognition information is entirely or partially is generated by use of at least low 3 bytes in a specific storage area of an information storage medium which is assigned to the use of a specified matter related to information storage medium.
