The invention relates to a process for treating an aqueous starting phase (PAD) containing titanium and sulfuric acid and resulting from the etching of titanium-containing ores by sulfuric acid of the type comprising the following steps: an extraction step wherein the aqueous starting phase (PAD) is brought in contact with an organic extraction phase (POE) containing one or a plurality of organophosphoretted compounds, whereby an organic phase is obtained which contains titanium and the sulfuric acid (PO); a regeneration step wherein the organic phase containing titanium and sulfuric acid is regenerated by bringing it in contact with an aqueous regeneration phase (PAR0), whereby an aqueous regenerated phase (PARf) containing the titanium is obtained; characterized in that it comprises an additional step wherein all or part of the aqueous regenerated phase (PARf) is brought in contact with an organic washing phase (POL), whereby a titanium-containing treated aqueous phase (PAT) is obtained.
