The advertising display surface has an illumination device (1,2,3) which is operated by solar energy, with a central system control with a microcontroller for overall control of the illumination device. The solar energy is fed to 2 independently controlled storage batteries with battery controllers for detecting their charge levels and temperature sensors for detecting their operating temperatures.
