A multi-stage apparatus and a process for recycling used engine coolant employs a combination of filtration, dissolved air floatation, centrifugation, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis and continu ous deionization for separating ethylene glycol, with or without propylene glycol, from used engine coolant. The process serves to significantly lower the concentration of ionic contaminants present within a used coolant so that the coolant may be reused.
