PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for welding and joining two or more belt-like materials whose plate thicknesses or materials differ so as to have a flat shape free from a warp in the longitudinal direction, and to provide its device. SOLUTION: In a welding method for a belt-like material, in which two or more pieces of belt-like materials whose plate thicknesses or materials differ are welded continuously in the longitudinal direction, along a weld line in the longitudinal direction of the belt-like material, by heating the weld line to a specific temperature or performing heat insulation and after that, by annealing it, a thermal strain to be generated along the weld line is prevented so as to allow the belt-like material after welding to have a flat shape free from the strain. In the welding method for the belt-like material, in which two or more pieces of belt-like materials whose plate thicknesses or materials differ are welded continuously in the longitudinal direction, notches 7-1 are provided in advance in joining parts along a joining line 8 in the longitudinal direction of the belt-like materials 2, 3 to relieve the thermal strain at the time of joining. After that, by joining them along the joining line 8, the belt-like material after joining is made to have a flat shape free from the strain.
