PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and low cost centrifugal compressor by using a magnetic bearing and a shaft seal device. SOLUTION: This invented centrifugal compressor 1 is provided with a casing 2 including a space inside thereof, an impeller 4 arranged in multiple stages in a casing 2 and compressing fluid taken into the space, a rotary shaft 3 driving the impeller 4, the magnetic bearing 10 rotatably supporting the rotary shaft 3, and the shaft seal device 11 sealing fluid taken into the casing 2. The magnetic bearing 10 supports both ends of the rotary shaft 3 in the casing 2, one end of the rotary shaft 3 is arranged inside of the casing 2, another end of the rotary shaft 3 is arranged outside of the casing 2, and the shaft seal device 11 is arranged on another end side of the rotary shaft 3.
