An authentication apparatus, an authentication method, an authentication program, and a computer readable recording medium are provided to use an image-taking direction as a reference for determining whether spoofing is being carried out, thereby improving the resistance to spoofing. An image taking unit(2) takes an image of a face of an authenticated person. An image-taking direction determining unit(5) determines whether or not the image taking unit takes the image of the face of authenticated person from diagonally lower direction with respect to the face. If not so, a determining unit(8) determines the authenticated person is not the person in question.
