PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extraction method without precipitation or aggregation of proteins at the time of extracting the proteins from infected cell or the like, in the preparation of protein samples for diagnosing viral infection or the like.SOLUTION: The invention provides a protein extraction method comprising contacting infected cells or the like to an extracting reagent containing 0.01-0.05 M, or 0.05-0.1 M of a denaturant, and increasing a pH thereof to at least about pH 10.0 to produce an intermediate composition; and neutralizing the pH of the intermediate composition under presence of a nonionic surfactant to produce a protein extraction material.SELECTED DRAWING: None
