A pulley assembly comprises a carrier body 10 and a pulley body 11 mounted on and for rotation relative to the carrier body 10 by a bearing 12. The carrier body is cup-shaped and has a radially outwardly extending flange 18 at the closed end 17. The bearing 12 has a radially inner ring 13 supported by the tubular part 16 of the carrier body 10. For an economical and simple construction a portion 19 of the tubular part 16 at the open end of the carrier body 10 overlies the axially adjacent part of the carrier body so that the bearing ring 13 is positioned axially between the flange 18 and the overlying part 19.
