The pressure cooker has a seal between the lid (11) and the circumferential edge of the container. The lid (11) is held rotatable by a transverse covering element (12) which projects over the edge of the lid and over the support elements (13) which are fixed outside on the wall of the container (10). The lid contains a reduction mechanism (32) which is mounted function-wise between an operating element (17) supported by the covering element 812), and the lid (11) of the pressure cooker in order to effect rotation of the lid about a certain angular width and following rotation of the operating element about a larger angular width. The covering element and lid pref. contain holding and guide means for rotating the lid. USE/ADVANTAGE - The outside appearance of the pressure cooker is improved whilst the lid can be easily opened and closed with one hand.
