PURPOSE:To provide a flash controller capable of surely performing proper exposure for a desired object by controlling light on the basis of a photometric value of preliminarily emitted flash light in a photometric area corresponding to a focusing area which is decided by a multi-point focus detection. CONSTITUTION:Focus detection is executed with respect to plural focus detecting areas so as to decide a focus detecting area to be focused. The quantity of light reflected from an object which is obtained when flash light is preliminarily emitted before releasing is measured in accordance with plural focus detecting areas. Thus, the necessary quantity of flash light to be emitted is calculated on the basis of the reflected light quantity in the photometry area corresponding to the decided focus detecting area, and then, the emission of flash light is controlled on the basis of the necessary quantity of flash light to be emitted. |
