CONSTITUTION:The raw material consisting of one kind of metal selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, W and Mo or the alloy consisting essentially of the metal and alloy element is melted by electron beam, plasma or vacuum arc to produce the metallic material or alloy material. At this time, the molten metal or alloy is brought into contact with the hydride of the metal (TiH2, ZrH2, NbH, NbH2, MoHx, TaHx, WHx, etc.) or the hydride of the alloy element to reduce the oxygen concn. In this case, about 1 to 10 equivalents of the hydride, expressed in terms of hydrogen, to the oxygen in the raw material is added.
