The invention concerns an annular member (7a, 7b) for sealing the edge of a material exchange column filled with ordered packing (2a - 2f). The annular member comprises an upper annular contact region (8a) and a lower annular contact region (8b) which are offset axially relative to each other and, in the assembled state, both contact the tangential outer surface of the packing (2a - 2f) at least partially. Each contact surface is resiliently connected to an outwardly directed deflector (10a, 10b) which abuts the column wall in the assembled state. Axial connectors (9) which connect the two contact regions in a force-locking manner are additionally provided.
