The invention concerns aromatic carbonyl compounds of formula (I) in which the groups R<1>-R<3> independently of one another stand for hydrogen or an alkyl group with 1-4 carbon atoms; R<4> stands for hydrogen or an alkyl group with 1-4 carbon atoms; and Ph stands for a phenyl group. These compounds are characterised by interesting aromas with wide diffusion and can be used as scents for example in cosmetic preparations, technical products or in alcohol-based perfumes.
