IMAGE SYNTHESIZING DEVICE AND METHOD

A one-dimensional image synthesizer (3) photographs an object and generates a plurality of object image signals representing object images having overlapped areas. A central processing unit (5), at center and large block matching steps, finds the matchings between adjacent object images for all object image signals and detects deviations of the overlapping areas from the matchings. Next, at a small block matching step, a reference block and a search region which are correlated with each other are set for each overlapped area, based on the deviations of the overlapping areas, and the deviation of the image of the object is detected more minutely than the deviation is at the large block matching step. Lastly, the object images are partially changed geometrically so as to cancel the deviation of the object image and at the same time all the object image signals are combined by superimposing the object images so that the reference block and the search block agree with each other, thus producing combined image signals.
