IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS AND PROCESS CARTRIDGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which suppresses scraping due to rubbing of a charging member and an image carrier and prolongs the service life of the image carrier and to provide a process cartridge.

SOLUTION: A magnetic brush charger 3 is disposed on the downstream side from a charging roller 2 in the rotating direction of a photosensitive drum 1, comes into contact with the drum 1 and electrifies the drum 1. The magnetic brush charger 3 rotates for at least a definite period of time when an image is not formed with a smaller difference in circumferential speeds than a prescribed difference in circumferential speeds between the charger 3 and the drum 1 in image formation. The distance in which the drum 1 is rubbed by magnetic particles is thereby shortened and scraping of the drum can be suppressed.
