PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer capable of introducing ink by suppressing bubbling of the ink even when air is existing in an ink passage, thereby preventing defective ejection of the ink and performing normal printing. SOLUTION: A print head 18 ejects ink on a recording paper P, thereby performing printing. An ink cartridge 22 supplies the ink to the print head 18. A suction cap 33 is separably brought into contact with a nozzle face of the print head 18. A suction pump 34 executes a purging operation for sucking the ink in the ink cartridge 22 from the side of the print head 18 through the suction cap 33. The purging operation consists of a first purging operation for allowing the ink to pass through a filter member in the ink passage by a small suction force and a second purging operation succeeding the first purging operation by a suction force greater than the former one. The print head 18 is driven during at least the first purging operation, then vibration is applied to the ink, so that the ink passes through the filter without generating bubbles. |
