<p>An electroluminescent (EL) lamp assembly (24) includes EL lamps (40) of selected limited size placed and secured upon a larger printed circuit substrate (35) employing surface mount techniques. The EL lamp assembly (24) includes a substrate (35) having a relatively large lamp receiving surface and relatively smaller lamps (40). At least one of these smaller lamps (40) is a multi-layer sheet-form EL lamp having a sheet-form layer containing EL particles, the layer disposed between a pair of sheet-form conductive layers, one of which is transparent for transmitting light emitted from the particles. The EL lamps (40) each have conductors (41a) exposed for engagement and connection with the conductive traces (36) on the lamp receiving surface of the substrate in a surface mounted face-to-face relationship according to a preselected illumination pattern and connected to the conductive traces.</p> |
