PURPOSE: A portable computer system for controlling a power supply of a universal serial bus and control method thereof is are to automatically break a power provided to a USB port when using a battery or when not using a USB port. CONSTITUTION: A portable computer system comprises: an adaptor detecting circuit(116) for detecting as to whether a power is provided from an AC adaptor(102) and outputting a detecting signal corresponding to the detecting result; control circuits(120,130) for receiving the detecting signal and generating a control signal to break the power of USB ports(112,312) when the AC adaptor(102) is not disconnected; and switching circuits(108,308) for breaking the power of USB ports(112,312) according to the control signals of control circuits(120,130). Thereby, an unnecessary loss power when not using the USB ports is not prevented.
