PURPOSE: A cam angle detection device of a variable valve timing system is provided to simplify the design of the package of a cylinder head and also to reduce the cost for the parts. CONSTITUTION: The valve timing controller(40) installed on a cam shaft(10) and to change the phase difference of the cam shaft(10) by being operated by a solenoid valve(39) which receives the signals of an electronic control unit is equipped by a piezoelectric sensor(48) that is able to detect the phase of a cam by output voltage sensed by sensing the compressing load of a spring(30), and it is placed on the position where the spring(30) is placed.
