The method uses a franking machine having a thermal impression head (80), in front of which a thermally sensitive recording support (86) is passed, predisposed on a predetermined part of the article (68) to be stamped in front of the impression element of the thermal impression head. The next step includes putting the recording support in intimate contact with the impression elements. The heating of the thermal impression elements is also selectively controlled for imprinting the postal imprint on the thermo-sensitive recording support.
