The mounting system for a car roof fits into a groove in the roof and comprises a U-profiled rail (11) whose arms (11a) are precoated with lacquer so that a flexible sealing strip (15) can be attached on either side. This has a lip (17) which fits into the groove in the roof and a protective lip (18) above this. The protective lip shields the sealing lip while paint (13) is applied to the top of the U-profile and can then be removed. An Independent claim is included for a method for making the mounting.
