A method for displaying short messages in a mobile terminal is provided to increase the convenience of users by enabling users to watch various advertisements or short messages while using moving pictures and other services. A transmitting-side mobile terminal creates and transmits a data-type short message. A receiving-side mobile terminal, receiving the short message, analyzes the type of the short message. In case that the short message is appointable for a display type, the receiving-side mobile terminal judges whether a display type has been appointed. If a display type has been appointed, the receiving-side mobile terminal displays the whole screen or the short message in a scroll method according to the appointed display type. However, if there is no appointed display type, the receiving-side mobile terminal displays the whole screen or the short message in the scroll method according to a default type.
