PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article transferring device and an article transferring method capable of carrying out an article by pinching the article with proper pinching force corresponding to weight of the article, while restricting a danger of breaking the article. SOLUTION: A pair of pinching bodies 7a pinches the article W as an object of transportation, which is housed in a housing part 4, from both sides thereof. A going-around belt 7b is fitted to the pair of pinching bodies 7a freely to go around, and goes around to pull the article W so that the article W is moved in the carrying-out direction in the condition wherein the article W is pinched by the pair of pinching bodies 7a. A detecting means 17 detects the article W passing through between the pair of pinching bodies 7a. A control means 21 controls the pair of pinching bodies 7a to come close to each other for pinching operation, and while controls the going-around belt 7b to go around (S105), and stops pinching operation of the pair of pinching bodies 7a when the detecting means 17 performs detection (S106, S107).
