PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fold a towel in three longitudinally with an accurate folding width without any adjustment even in the condition where towels of small sizes are mixed and to make the construction of a folding device part simple and compact. SOLUTION: According to this towel folding method, the positions of the right and left side edges Ya of the towel Y placed on a transport conveyer 1 are respectively detected to measure the lateral width (W<SB>1</SB>or W<SB>2</SB>) of the towel Y, and two guide rods 22, 22 are located at positions 1/3 distant in the cross direction of the towel from the right and left side edges of the towel on the basis of the towel width data. After that, the right and left side edge parts of the towel are respectively folded back on the respective guide rods by air blow to longitudinally fold the towel in three, whereby the towel can be accurately folded in positions 1/3 of the lateral width, and the large and small towels can be mixed and supplied.
