A method of making tactile flooring elements, such as tiles, comprises providing a mixture of a cross-linkable, polymerisable resin and a hardener filled with abrasion resistant particles characterised in that the abrasion-resistant particles are concentrated in an upper layer 19 of the flooring element to give a high friction, wear resistant surface and further characterised in that a layer of abrasion resistant particles 18 is incorporated into the base surface of the element, prior to polymerisation so that, after polymerisation, it will form a rough backing layer integral with the flooring element, ideal for the adhesion of the element to the foundation plane to which the flooring element is to be bonded with an appropriate adhesive. Rubber particles 15 may also be included in the resin - filler mixture to provide cushioning in the substrate of the tile. The resin - filler mixture may be applied to the mould either in a single layer or in multiple layers. The resin mixture may be vibrated to settle the mixture fully into the mould, allowing the denser abrasion resistant particles to sink towards the base of the mould. |
