PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially preferable production method of a polymer latex high in acrylonitrile content, having excellent dispersion stability, containing no remaining monomer and excellent in environmental aptitude, and to provide a film obtained from the latex and high in water-resistance. SOLUTION: The production method of polymer latex is characterized by mixing a polymerizable monomer with water and a nonionic polymerization initiator in the presence of neither protective colloid nor surfactant, wherein the polymerizable monomer comprises≥50 mass% acrylonitrile based on the whole polymerizable monomers, and nonionic polymerizable monomer having at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of a phosphatic group, phosphate ester group, carboxylic group, sulfonic group, -OH group, -(C<SB>2</SB>H<SB>5</SB>O)n- group and -(C<SB>3</SB>H<SB>6</SB>O)n- group.
