PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paste type alginate impression material for dentistry, usable for patterning of tooth and the like, wherein mixing state of two pastes is easily visually confirmed and color of the impression material is not adhered on plaster model surfaces. SOLUTION: The alginate impression material for dentistry includes a substrate paste containing an alginate and water, and a hardener paste containing a gelation reactant, a hardly water-soluble organic solvent and a surfactant, and a coloring matter colored before hardening of the impression material and colorless after hardening, such as phenolphthalein, is compounded in at least one of the pastes.
