PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image erasure method capable of suppressing unerased image portions without lowering throughput per day even in the case of a sudden occurrence of an unexpected low temperature state in at least either surface temperature or erasure environmental temperature of a heat reversible recording medium.SOLUTION: The image erasure method includes: an image erasure step for erasing an image recorded on a heat reversible recording medium 15 by heating with laser beams the heat reversible recording medium 15 which reversibly changes to either a colored state or a decolored state in dependence on heating temperature and a cooling time; and a control step for controlling the heating time by laser beams in the image erasure step in accordance with a temperature measurement value obtained by measuring at least either surface temperature or erasure environmental temperature of the heat reversible recording medium 15, before starting the image erasure step.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
