An imaging apparatus comprising: a lens group formed of one or more lens elements; and an imaging device having a light receiving surface on which the lens group forms an image of an object, wherein the light receiving surface of the imaging device is a curved surface that is concave toward the lens group, wherein the light receiving surface of the imaging device has an aspheric shape such that a tangential angle between a tangential line circumscribing an outermost circumferential portion at a boundary of the curved surface and a flat portion surrounding the curved surface of the light receiving surface and a plane perpendicular to an optical axis of the lens group is smaller than the tangential angle provided when the light receiving surface has a spherical shape, and wherein a first intersection is farther away from the light receiving surface than a second intersection, wherein the first intersection is an intersection of a normal to a tangential line circumscribing the light receiving surface at 100% of an image height and the optical axis of the lens group, and wherein the second intersection is an intersection of a normal to a tangential line circumscribing the light receiving surface at 0 to 90% of the image height and the optical axis.
