PURPOSE:To detect acceleration in all directions other than an up-and-down direction, by a method wherein a transmission signal such as an ultrasonic wave is applied to a wt. suspended by a spring and acting inertia force and the moving distance of the wt. is measured by the phase difference of the reflected signal and the transmission signal while a direction is discriminated by the inclination of the reflected signal. CONSTITUTION:A triangular wt. 6 is suspended by a spring 7 so as to be returned to the original position when acceleration is not applied thereto. A transmission element 8 emits a signal toward the wt. 6 while a receiving element 9 receives the reflected transmission signal. A numeral 10 is a signal absorbing material for preventing the irregular reflection of the transmissin signal and a numeral 11 is a casing. In the next step, when the wt. 6 is moved by inertia, the moving distance thereof is measured on the basis of the original position by the phase difference of the transmission signal and the receiving signal and a direction is discriminated by the distribution of the signal corresponding to the size of acceleration. As mentioned above, by detecting the moving direction and distance of the wt. due to inertia by the phase difference of the signal distribution and the transmission and receiving signals, the acceleration in all directions other than an up-and-down direction can be simply detected. |
