Dispensing devices must be designed simply with respect to construction and manufacture, must be infinitely adjustable and must function satisfactorily over long periods of time. Known metering devices have supply containers subdivided into chambers whose emptying apertures open into a common and stepwise adjustable valve device. Supply container and valve device are arranged spatially separated from each other. The metered quantity can be extracted only in predetermined magnitudes. The new metering device combines the supply container and adjustable valve device into one device. The metered quantity can be adjusted infinitely. The dispensing device according to the invention has an outer housing (1) with water supply stubs (2), water overflow stubs (3) and discharge stubs (4). A metering chamber (16) is pivotably mounted herein. By rotating or pivoting the metering chamber (6), its overflow edge (9) takes up various levels (N1, N2) which determine the content or the quantity of the liquid to be metered. The metering device is used for supplying water for obtaining brine. It is especially used in dishwashers and washing machines having softening devices and serves for the regeneration of the same. <IMAGE>
