1,180,759. Mono- and disazo dyestuffs. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 7 Nov., 1967 [8 Nov., 1966 (2); 2 May, 1967], No. 50587/67. Addition to 1,109,628. Heading C4P. The invention comprises azo dyestuffs free from ionic groups forming salt in water and having the general formula wherein A is a radical of an optionally substituted aromatic carbocycle or aromatic heterocycle which may contain an arylazo group, one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is an optionally substituted phenyl radical, a second R is a radical -alk-O-Z, wherein alk is an optionally substituted alkylene radical and Z is H, an acyl radical or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical and the other R is H or an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenylalkyl radical. Values of A specified include phenyl optionally substituted o- or pto the azo bond, or optionally substituted naphthyl, pyrazole, thiazole, oxdiazole, thiodiazole, triazole or pyridine radicals. They are prepared by diazotization and coupling or when one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 is an -alk-O-acyl group by acylating the corresponding dyestuff containing an -alk-OH group. The dyes give yellow, orange, red and scarlet shades on polyamides, polyesters, polyolefins and cellulose esters.
