PURPOSE: To provide the device for automatically measuring the physical characteristic of a plural number of smoking articles for product inspection by providing a smoking article grasping and releasing means, a means moving/receiving the smoking article and measuring physical characteristic and a means for controlling these. CONSTITUTION: The physical characteristics of the smoking article 20 such as a cigarette, especially the physical characteristics of the filter 450 part are automatically measured by providing the automatic inspection device of a plural number of smoking articles with the means 503 for grasping and releasing the smoking article 20, a means 503 moving the grasped smoking article within a moving range, a means receiving one of the pleural number of the smoking articles at the first position within the moving range, means 200, 600, 700, 800 and 850 at a second position within the moving range, which measure the physical characteristics of the smoking articles and the element 450 of the smoking articles and a means 1000 for controlling the grasping and releasing means and the moving means for grasping one of the smoking articles at the first position and moving the one of the smoking articles to the measuring means so as to measure the physical characteristics of the one of smoking articles.
