PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily identify a character even when image data of a document are reduced by providing a protection area detecting means, a thinning processing means and a data reducing means and performing reducing processing. SOLUTION: CPU 11 instructs read-out of a document to an image scanner 1 and the scanner 1 supplies high resolution image data of the read document to an information processor 2. The CPU 11 decides whether or not the thinning processing of the whole high resolution image data is finished, if not finished, CPU 11 extracts, image data for one character from the image data and decides whether or not a rectangular black part of a prescribed size exists. If not, after the image data for one character are subjected to thinning processing, the data are preserved as new image data. Consequently, the processing of the whole high resolution image data is repeated and thinning processing is performed for every image data for one character. After thinning processing of the whole high resolution image data is performed, reducing processing is performed and the image data of intermediate resolving power are formed. |
