PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treating device excellent in the operation efficiency and capable of continuing the repetition of a stabilized filter operation and back-washing, and its operation method, in a water treating device using a separation membrane module. SOLUTION: In the water treating device provided with a treated liquid feed line 8 for feeding the treated liquid filtered by the separation membrane module 3 to a treated liquid tank 9, a temporary storage tank 10 provided in the treated liquid feed line 8, pressurizing means 11, 12 for pressurizing the inside of the temporary storage tank 10 by pressurized air, the water treating device is provided with a treated liquid replenishing means 14 for feeding the treated liquid from the treated liquid tank 9 to the temporary storage tank 10, and an air vent means 13 for exhausting air in the temporary storage tank 10.
