The assembly to dry or cool or classify loose material, in powder or granule form, has a process zone (2) in a housing (1) with a horizontal base (3). The material for processing is fed into the process zone over the base. A gas flow is generated at the base to form an upwards and circular gas flow, together with a centrifugal wheel (4). Coarse matter is taken off (5) at the periphery of the base.
