PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to store as easily as possible electronic data into a specific electronic data storage means whose attributes are designated. SOLUTION: A data converter includes: a GUI part 1 for copying files; a storage device 2 in which electronic data are stored according to files; a folder attribute sensing part 3 for sensing the attributes of each folder in the storage device 2; a format converting part 4 for converting the format of the electronic data; and a copy control part 5 for controlling the folder attribute sensing part 3 and the format converting part 4 when the electronic data are copied. When the GUI part 1 executes a copy function, the format of the sender's image data is converted according to the attribute of the folder in the receiver, so that the format of the image data can be automatically converted without the user being conscious of it, reducing the user's operational burden.
