摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve higher definition in a display picture by restraining the superposition between adjacent pixels in the display picture. <P>SOLUTION: In the display device having a reflection type spatial optical modulation element 5 spatially optically modulating irradiating light emitted from a light source and reflecting it as picture light, and shifting the picture light by specified amount and enlarging and displaying the picture, a transparent substrate 15 being a part of the element 5 and coming into contact with a liquid crystal layer 17 is constituted of a translucent parallel plate 18 through which the light is transmitted, a microlens array substrate 20 having lenses in an array state and a translucent adhesive layer 19 which is held between the plate and substrate and through which the light is transmitted, and the plate 18 is positioned on a side on which the irradiating light from the light source is made incident from the substrate 20.
