<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus suitable for index printing. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus which layouts in a row direction and a column direction arrangement sections 42 where both picture data showing contents of files and file identification information for identifying the files are arranged, and which prints on a recording paper, the file identification information and the picture data related to the file identification information are each arranged in the order in the arrangement sections 42 aligned in the row direction by sorting by lengths of the file identification information.
