A secondary battery is provided to prevent a vent from being cracked, broken or damaged at the opening of the vent by external impacts, thereby improving reliability of the battery. A secondary battery comprises: an electrode assembly; a can for housing the electrode assembly; and a cap assembly coupled to the opened top of the can. In the secondary battery, a vent is formed on the wider side(11a) of the can, the vent has an opening(200) with a thickness smaller than the circumferential portion, and an impact-absorbing portion(300) is formed around the vent, and the impact-absorbing portion has a thickness between the thickness of the can and the thickness of the opening.
